Energetic Boundaries and the 7th/Crown Chakra

By Carol Grimes

The 7th Chakra or Crown Chakra is located around crown of head and brain, and is the energy center responsible for energetic connection and connection to one’s higher self. When this chakra is strong, love, compassion, kindness, acceptance, bliss, and gratitude will dominate the emotional landscape and you will feel in sync with the universal flow of energy.

Yet, because energetic connection and energetic boundaries are rarely discussed or acknowledged, you may not be aware of the many ways in which you give your energy and power away, or take on the energies of others, thus weakening and diluting your own essence and diminishing your ability to awaken 7th chakra energy.

To protect your energy is an act of self-love.

One way to begin to heal this disconnect and strengthen energetic boundaries is to simply acknowledge and make conscious when energetic exchange has occurred. The reality is that for most of us, it’s a habit that we have little to no control over — we subconsciously give away or take on energy for many different and complex reasons — habits that often began in childhood as a way to protect ourselves or gain attention and love.

The 7th chakra reminds us that, in order to ascend to states of higher consciousness, we must reclaim our energy, protect our energy, and have strong energetic boundaries so that we can be in alignment with our higher selves. Ultimately this will lead to less suffering, less harm, and more internal freedom, happiness, connection, and love.

Here are a few simple ways to begin this work:

Reclaim your energy

Weakened energy sets the stage for inadvertently taking on negative or lower vibration energy that doesn’t belong to you, and isn’t your burden to carry.

Start by calling back your energy from emails, the news, screen time, from work obligations, personal obligations, from current relationships or encounters from strangers, from any situation that made you feel drained. From any encounter, any difficulty, or any trauma from your past, even back to your childhood where you lost your power or had your energy stolen in some way, or gave it up to protect yourself.

Try this: Take some deep breaths in, and with each inhale say to yourself internally, “I call ALL my energy and ALL my power back to me.” Imagine your energy is returning to you, clean, clear, and purified. Repeat this for several minutes and trust that with your breath and with your intention and with your willpower, this process will continue to unfold. With time and repetition and practice, it will become easier and easier to reclaim your energy.

Release what’s not yours

Many of us are subconsciously taking on the energy of others on a regular basis, but especially those of us who are highly sensitive or empathetic, or those of us who are carrying trauma. You might be taking on the emotions of others, the physical illnesses of others, or even absorbing the karma of others.

Try this: Take some deep breaths out, and with each exhale, say to yourself internally, “I release ANYTHING that doesn’t belong to me, or isn’t in alignment with my higher self.” Imagine sending that energy back to source, cleaned, cleared, and purified. Repeat this for several minutes and trust that with your breath and with your intention and with your willpower, this process will continue to unfold. With time and repetition and practice, it will become easier and easier to release any energy that doesn’t belong to you.

Recognize that each individual is responsible for their own energy

When we take on the energy of others and do their healing work for them, we rob them of the opportunity to learn, grow, and evolve. It’s not your responsibility to take on the suffering of any other living being, not even that of someone you love. You can offer physical, emotional and even energetic support without absorbing their burden.

Likewise, you can acknowledge and take full responsibility for your own energy, and not pass it off for anyone else to fix or heal.

Experience being purely in your own energy

Give yourself the gift of being in your own energy and your own space, taking the time to be alone and become aware of how this feels.

Regularly practice reclaiming and clearing your energy so that you gain a deep understanding of what it feels like to be purely and wholly in your own energy. The more awareness that you build, the easier it will be to protect your energy and stay strong in your power.

Recognize when energetic connection is in alignment with your higher self

Energetic exchange and connection can also be one of life’s greatest gifts, as long as it is a pure exchange and is in alignment with your higher self.

Practice noticing, acknowledging and appreciating the times when being with others brings you joy and happiness, or when you experience the energetic exchange of love and connection, or feel a burst of warmth in the heart when you think of someone, or even when you genuinely and compassionately connect to the grief or sadness of others. Be present and grateful for the times when you give and receive energy that come from a pure place of the heart.

We receive many gifts of energetic connection from the universe and from our loved ones that that are beautiful and healing. Strengthening energetic boundaries and awareness will help you to better receive these blessings.
